PHYSIOTHERAPY
Physiotherapists are primary health care professionals with a significant role in health promotion and treatment of injury and disease. They combine their in-depth knowledge of the body and how it works with specialized hands-on clinical skills to assess, diagnose and treat symptoms of illness, injury or disability. All physiotherapists registered to practise in Canada are qualified to provide safe and effective physiotherapy. They have met national entry-level education and practice standards, and have successfully passed a standardized physiotherapy competence examination prior to being registered with the college of physiotherapists in their province/territory.
1) Whether your injury is from an accident, a sporting injury or a work injury; after your preliminary treatment, you can reach full recovery through physiotherapy.
Â
2) After an operation, or following some sporting injury or accident a patient seeks advice from a physiotherapist who will take care of you and make certain your return to a regular way of life. It can be as simple as helping somebody who is finding it challenging to deal with the pain that they are facing after an injury. However, it can be as complex as teaching somebody to walk all over again.
Â
3) Part of a physiotherapist’s job is to give the patients the proper tools to enable them to continue their treatment in their own time. In cases where a patient is they unable to walk, a physiotherapist may suggest how they can assist themselves outside of the sessions. They may also take a more hands-on strategy to the therapy using muscle releases and stretches.
Â
4) Before any physiotherapy can commence there needs to be a complete comprehensiveanalysis of the patient and the injury that they have faced.
Â
5) Muscles that are not able to move for a number of weeks become weak and lose flexibility, and they might become less collaborated since normal activity has been eliminated. Physiotherapy puts in place a schedule that helps to recover the balance between muscle and bone through specialised training, muscle releases and stretching.
Â
6) Physiotherapists deal with a vast array of people with a variety of issues that are causing them pain. When it concerns physiotherapy, every patient is special, and each patient has an individual case that is triggering them pain. It takes a skilled expert to notify and certify the issues incorrect with a patient and then bring them back to their typical state.
CHIROPRACTOR
One of the largest primary care professions in Ontario, chiropractic is a non-invasive, hands-on health care discipline that focuses on the musculoskeletal system.Chiropractors practice a manual approach, providing diagnosis, treatment and preventive care for disorders related to the spine, pelvis, nervous system and joints. Chiropractors use a combination of treatments, all of which are predicated on the specific needs of the individual patient. After taking a complete history and diagnosing a patient, a chiropractor can develop and carry out a comprehensive treatment/management plan, recommend therapeutic exercise and other non-invasive therapies, and provide nutritional, dietary and lifestyle counselling. For many conditions, such as lower back pain, chiropractic care is frequently the primary method of treatment. Where other conditions exist, chiropractic care may complement or support medical treatment by relieving the musculoskeletal aspects associated with the condition. Chiropractic care may also be used to provide symptomatic relief for patients with chronic conditions. According to patient surveys, by treating the musculoskeletal elements of such disorders, chiropractic treatment has been shown to improve the general well-being of the patient.
CHIROPODY
A Chiropodist is a qualified foot specialist. The practice of Chiropody is the assessment of the foot and the treatment and prevention of diseases, disorders or dysfunctions of the foot by therapeutic, orthotic or palliative means.Chiropodists and Podiatrists are primary health care providers, and are the only regulated foot professionals educated exclusively in the assessment and treatment of foot disorders.
MASSAGE THERAPY
If you are suffering from muscle tightness, tension from overuse and/or stiff joints our registered massage therapists (RMTs) can help you. RMTs are healthcare professionals that are regulated by the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario. They use a variety of hands on techniques to manipulate the soft tissues in your body (muscles, connective tissues, joints, tendons and ligaments) in order to provide therapeutic relief, decrease your pain and optimize your health. Massage therapy can aid in the recovery of injured tissues and overused muscles in the body. In addition, RMTs can compliment other forms of therapy including physiotherapy, chiropractic care and acupuncture by speeding up the recovery process and preventing future re-injury.
There are tremendous benefits to be achieved through regular massage therapy treatments from a Registered Massage Therapist. Whether your need is to have a moment of relaxation, reduce muscle tension or attain relief from chronic pain, a therapeutic massage can enhance your overall sense of emotional and physical well-being. Massage therapy can be an important part of your health maintenance plan by:
Â
1) Reducing or eliminating pain.
2) Improving joint mobility.
3) Improving circulation.
Improving lymphatic drainage.
4) Reducing muscular tension.
Â
Massage therapy can be used for the treatment of both acute and chronic conditions. RMTs can work with a wide variety of patients, of all ages, in the treatment of illness, injury rehabilitation and disability. Massage Therapists today use their knowledge of physiology and anatomy to combine traditional Swedish and modern massage therapy techniques with other therapies to treat their clients. There has been a wide variety of research, published in peer reviewed journals, proving the benefits of massage therapy for various conditions.
Â
Massage Therapy can also be used as part of a preventative care program. This includes sports training, injury prevention, ongoing stress management, and more! Together, you and your therapist will develop a treatment plan based on your needs. The treatment plan can be changed at any time and you have no obligation to undergo any part of treatment. Your treatment begins after you’ve given your informed consent.
ACUPUNCTURE
Acupuncture is a safe and effective natural therapy that is used to heal illness, prevent disease and improve well-being. Tiny, hair-thin needles are inserted into specific points in the body, where they are gently stimulated to trigger the body’s natural healing response. Acupuncture is effective for controlling pain and can regulate the body’s physiological functions to treat various internal dysfunction and disorders
Acupuncture has developed in the past few thousand years, through a rich tradition of trial and error, into an ’empirical’medicine. In the United States and Canada many different styles of acupuncture have been introduced such as Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) acupuncture,Japanese Acupuncture, electroacupuncture, auricular acupuncture, trigger point acupuncture, Korean hand acupuncture, etc. Despite such diversity, acupuncture is often discussed in general form. Physiological response from acupuncture varies greatly based on various factors, not only on practitioner’s skills but also on style of acupuncture. The traditional approach of using acupuncture treatments is based on careful evaluation and differentiation of signs and symptoms according to the treatment principles of Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM).
MEDICAL BRACES AND ORTHOSES
CUSTOM MADE ORTHOTICS
Custom made orthotic foot braces are corrective devices made to assist a foot that fails biomechanically, to function normally. The orthotics are made to control abnormal foot function, re-establish proper weight distribution and improve overall biomechanics.
Following an evaluation, a neutral position foot mold is taken and sent to a Professional Podiatry Lab where a positive cast is produced. Specially selected thermoplastics are vacuum heat molded to the patient’s positive plaster cast. Modifications will be incorporated to meet the patient’s needs.
Everyone! Even if you don’t suffer from any obvious foot pain you may have some biomechanical imbalances that could lead to problems later if left untreated.
Many clinical conditions may be present without any obvious foot problems. Subtle imbalances in the foot are amplified as they go up the leg, knee, hip and back resulting in problems that may not have been properly assessed due to lack of a full biomechanical evaluation.
Yes. Our orthotics are truly custom. We first perform a clinical biomechanical evaluation to determine the amount of correction necessary. Then a neutral position plaster foot mold of your foot is taken to yield a positive plaster cast. Your orthotic is derived from this platform with the corrections necessary to address your specific situation. Any orthotic dispensed without a complete biomechanical evaluation and neutral, non-weight bearing plaster cast, is not custom.
With everyday use under normal conditions you should get between 2-3 years of correction from your Custom Orthotics. Orthotic type, age, weight and activity of the patient will play an important role in this issue. Your orthotics should be checked regularly with your practitioner.
The proper use of these corrective devices should significantly reduce a patient’s symptoms or foot related pain and discomfort. Some conditions may be severe and have already undergone osseous change. In this case the orthotics will prevent further damage and promote soft tissue restoration.
Custom orthotics addresses the biomechanical cause of the condition. Think of your orthotics like prescription eyeglasses. They correct alignment when they are worn. Orthotics are not like dental braces which correct alignment over time.
